Joanna’s Tips on Aging Well

The truth is that as skin is concerned, there is no turning back the clock; aging skin is part of a natural process that is determined in part by genetics. Aging starts in earnest in your mid twenties that’s why we always urge young people to take skincare seriously.

What exactly happens to your skin when you age? Just under the top layer of your skin, the dermis begins to lose thickness, and from your mid-twenties until your golden years, its width decreases by 20 to 80 percent. The production of collagen and elastin slows down as well and much of your skin’s existing supply starts to break down resulting in reduced resiliency and fullness.

Between ages thirty and eighty, the rate of skin cell turnover declines between 30 and 50 percent, meaning that we don’t shed cells as rapidly. This leads to dull, rough, flaky, patchy, or dry skin. Other skin cells don’t form as quickly, either, causing a slower immune response in the body.

There are some things that will make your skin age faster than others. Below are some skincare tips that can help with the signs of aging.

“We all know there’s no magic formula to stop aging, but we can shift our mindset to aging well by incorporating healthy practices into our lifestyle as we age” – Joanna

Tip 1: HYDRATION: Dehydrated skin over time leads to wrinkles in the epidermis. When we lose hyaluronic acid as we age, cells can’t hold on to as much water which causes more dehydration. We recommend our sheet masks as hydration boosters, used weekly or whenever your skin is feeling parched. Plus, incorporating healthy hydrating foods like watermelon, green juice, and avocado into your diet helps from the inside out.

Tip 2: COLLAGEN: We all have collagen, but as we age we need help plumping it up. Adding turmeric to meals helps from the inside out, and my EDEN INSTANT LIFT MASK includes Swiss Apple Stem cells – a dream ingredient for collagen.

Tip 3: SPF: There’s no better time to prevent future skin damage than today. If you’re not already using SPF on your face, neck, and chest daily, start now! Your future self will thank you. We recommend using SPF 30 or above, on every part of the body exposed to the daylight.
