Summer is here and I’m sure we are all excited to soak in the sun and enjoy the warm weather. While this may be your top priority this summer, the single most important thing you can do for your skin is protect it from the sun and keep it hydrated.
Your skin is composed of 30 percent water, so it would make sense that if you aren’t drinking enough water, your skin will suffer. Dehydration affects the skin in a little bit more of a complicated way though. Let’s get into it.
Dry skin and dehydrated skin are not the same thing. Dehydration is the lack of water in your skin, not oil. People with dry skin were born with fewer oil-producing glands. This eliminates the strong protective barrier against environmental stressors, and your skin doesn’t retain moisture as well as it should.Â
Your skin can become dehydrated as a result of environmental stress.Things like not using a humidifier while you sleep in the cold, improper use of products, using the wrong products, excessive caffeine or alcohol intake, and of course, not drinking enough water.Â
